5 Things an Adult Should Know About Clothing Care

If it Says “Dry Clean Only”, Do Just That
We all are aware that dry cleaning is expensive — But it’s worth it. If you put a suit in the washing machine, it will never be the same. Ever. Good thing there’s only a few types of clothing that need to be dry cleaned. Also, dry cleaned clothes become clean, pressed and sharp. Don’t forget to take note of the chemicals used and always opt for products good for the skin

Separate The Colors
Separating your whites from the darks isn’t just something to keep yourself busy. Your whites may still seem to look white even after you washed them with dark clothes. But it’s going to have a greyish tinge when you stand next to someone with an immaculate white shirt. The best way is to get three hampers and sort by whites, lights and darks. White is white, not cream, yellow or gray. All non-white clothes that look bright should be in hamper #2 and darker clothes including jeans should be in hamper #3.

The Temperature
Washing clothes in hot water helps rid of grease, dust, and fungus. This is best suited for for socks and sheets. Cold water on the other hand helps prevent colors from “bleeding”, or stain out in the water. Take note that items in the first hamper should be washed hot, The second hamper is best washed warm, and the third hamper be washed cold. If that’s too complicated, just remember “white hot, cold & dark

Bleach
Use bleach ONLY when washing white clothes from the whites hamper. If you have lots of white clothes with stripes, or colorful clothes with white parts, get some detergent with a “color-safe bleach”. Do not pour the bleach directly into the washing machine. Instead, it goes into a little pan which says something like “bleach dispenser”. Do not put powder in this pan. It’s better to use a little bleach than too much. Your clothes will smell like a swimming pool and wear out fast if you use too much.

Clothes Fade When Drying, Therefore Hang Dry The Expensive Stuff
Best used for fancy clothes and shirts with the “new” look, natural fabrics (cotton, linen, wool, silk, etc.) with a shiny look to it, and anything else you want to keep looking extra fresh. If the items is more expensive than your similar articles, hang dry it. You can also put it in the dryer JUST for 5 minutes to get the wrinkles out and then hang dry. If you have a lot of stuff to hang, get a clothes rack or line.
